Tuesday Toast: Tomi Adeyemi

Tomi Adeyemi is a Nigerian-American Harvard graduate and author . She is the author of a book known as the Children of Blood and Bone, a young adult fantasy novel which is being pegged as one of the biggest fantasy novel debuts of 2018 and has already netted a movie deal. When asked about her inspiration for writing the novel, she stated that she wanted to write a fantasy novel which is set in West Africa so that “a little Black girl could pick up my book one day and see herself as the star…I want her to know that she’s beautiful and she matters and she can have a crazy, magical adventure even if an ignorant part of the world tells her she can never be Hermione Granger.

Her achievements, both in becoming a published author and getting a movie deal at such a young age and also working hard to promote inclusion are laudable and she is an inspiration to young women all over the world. #TuesdayToast
